Rency Elkomy – July 2022 Volunteer of the Month

Rency Elkomy is one of Columbia's Adopt-A-Spot Beautification volunteers. She has been with the program since September 2015 and cares for the median in Green Meadows Road just east of Providence Road.

Rency has had a life-long passion for gardening. This passion developed from helping her mom out in the garden as a kid. She has lived in Columbia since 1988, so is a long-time member of the community. Both of her signs have her parents' names on them. She explained her reasoning: "My mom's sign represents my love for gardening. My dad's sign represents how he served our country in the U.S. Army for 20 years during times of peace and war." Her parents have been role models in gardening and serving your community; they are a reason why she is an adopter.

On what she enjoys about being an adopter, she says she loves being able to share the beauty of flowers with the citizens of Columbia and any visitor. As a matter of fact, local members of the community often come up to compliment her on the beautiful flowers. She appreciates that they take the time to do this and can share in her love for the flowers. Sometimes the visitors even accidentally startle Rency because of her steady focus on making the area look beautiful.

Thank you Rency for your service!
