Humboldt County Public Works Roads Division is celebrating:
OUR ROADS' SAFETY WEEK
ROAD SAFETY IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILTY
Whether you drive, ride, or walk, understanding the operational challenges large trucks and buses face can help us reach zero roadway fatalities. Our Roads, Our Safety® Week is an annual safety observance dedicated to educating all road users on sharing the road safely with large trucks and buses.
May 5, 2024: Motorcyclist Day
There are 9.89 million registered motorcyclists in the U.S. Everyone plays a role in road safely, particularly when navigating around large trucks and buses.
May 6, 2024: Passenger Vehicle Driver Day
Large trucks and buses have long stopping distances, large blind spots, and make wide turns. Understanding how to safely drive around them can help save lives.
May 7, 2024: Young Driver & Kid Day
Understanding how to share the road safely around large trucks and buses can happen at any age-it's never too early to start learning!
May 8, 2024: Large Truck & Bus Driver Day
Safely operating large trucks and buses while obeying traffic laws can save lives- unsafe driving behaviors can lead to crashes and deaths on our roads.
May 9, 2024: Pedestrian Day
Pedestrians accounted for 17% of traffic fatalities in 2021. Whether you drive, ride, or walk-let's all share the road safely with large trucks and buses.
May 10, 2024: Bicyclist Day
Bicylists lack protection in a crash and travel slower than other vehicles. Do your part to stay alert and seen to keep everyone safe on our roads.
May 11, 2024: End of Our Roads, Our Safety® Week
Nearly 6,000 large trucks and buses were involved in fatal crashes in 2021. We all play a part in road safety-let's share the road.
