United States Chief of Naval Operations Makes Introductory Visit to Singapore ..

The United States' (US) Chief of Naval Operations Admiral (ADM) Michael Gilday called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. During their meeting, Dr Ng and ADM Gilday discussed regional security developments and initiatives to continue strengthening mutual cooperation between the two navies moving forward. Both sides also commended the successful completion of the recent Exercise Pacific Griffin between the Republic of Singapore Navy and the US Navy.

ADM Gilday, who is in Singapore from 26 to 29 July 2021 for his introductory visit, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Melvyn Ong and reviewed a Guard of Honour, prior to calling on Dr Ng.

ADM Gilday's visit underscores the strong navy-to-navy relations between Singapore and the US, as well as the excellent and long-standing defence relations between the countries. Both navies interact regularly through professional exchanges, cross-attendance of courses and participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises. These regular interactions have enhanced cooperation and deepened personal and professional ties between their personnel.
