Millburg Awarded Griffiths Medal for Research Article

Lance Millburg of Pawnee was awarded the 2019-20 Griffiths Medal for his research published in a health systems industry journal.

Awarded by the Operational Research Society, the Griffiths Medal recognizes the most outstanding contributions to the philosophy, theory or practice of health systems published in the Journal of Health Systems.

Millburg, 35, is the system administrator of quality and performance improvement at Memorial Health, a Springfield-based nonprofit organization that includes five hospitals and a variety of care settings and programs throughout Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln, Springfield and Taylorville.

Millburg's article, which he co-authored with five other experts, explores the value of modeling-based design in health care delivery, analyzing the cost of modeling and savings resulting from several health care management decisions based on simulation results.

A certified Lean Six Sigma black belt, Millburg joined Memorial Health in 2011. He has directed the Memorial Health decision sciences division since 2016. In this capacity, he has been central to the deployment of advanced data forecasting and visualization tools that have been a key component of Memorial Health's organizational pandemic response.

Millburg earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration in 2010 and 2017, respectively, from the University of Illinois-Springfield.
