The Encouragement Experience

Wayne State University was one of the first universities in the country to create an Office of Economic Development. Over the last decade, Wayne State and TechTown have developed a partnership to guide/support local businesses in the city of Detroit. By providing the resources to help business owners launch, stabilize, and grow in today's retail environment, many are thriving, even in a world-wide pandemic.

Last month, we held our Encouragement Experience event at Woodward | Warren Park on Wayne State University's campus, as part of Design Core Detroit's Month of Design. The event featured an installation of positivity, kindness and motivation by Ange Zelenak, owner of local business Inkcourage.

Each encouragement station was created by TechTown clients and alumni specializing in art, design, fashion, and home décor through pop-up shops. While children and adults alike enjoyed activities and on-site entertainment courtesy of the Wayne State College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts.

As a non-profit organization, we have done a tremendous amount of work with small businesses across the city of Detroit, and will continue to seek out safe and creative ways to feature local vendors
