The Numismatic Museum of the Central Bank of Uruguay (Museo Numismático - Banco Central del Uruguay) presented a virtual collection of banknotes titled "Women portraits on banknotes" (Mujeres Homenajeadas en Billetes en el Mundo) which includes a circulating Serbian banknote (RSD 200 denomination) featuring the portrait of our renowned artist Nadežda Petrović.

The collection contains pictures of banknotes from countries across the globe featuring the portraits of women. Throughout history, with their life and work in science, literature and art, these women were the pioneers on the road towards a society based on equality.

In addition to our banknote, the virtual collection also consists of the pictures of banknotes presenting the portraits of the most significant women from Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, Columbia, Chile, Estonia, Switzerland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Norway, the UK and Israel.

The most acclaimed Serbian artist from the early 20th century, Nadežda Petrović, introduced the Serbian art into contemporary European trends. A great advocate for human rights, a humanist and a patriot, she fused the two main choices of hers - modern expression and the idea of art in the service of people.

She was born in Čačak, on 12 October 1873. Her creative work entails three most significant periods: the Munich period which is decisive for her fine art, the Serbian period and the Parisian period. In the First Balkan War she volunteered as a nurse on the battlefield with the high command.

Some of her best paintings include the Bavarian, Harvest, Host, Gusle Player, Monk, Kosovo Peonies, Tents of the Hospital of Valjevo, and many others.

She died of typhus in the Valjevo First Emergency Hospital on 3 April 1915.

The Numismatic Museum of the Central Bank of Uruguay made the collection "Women portraits on banknotes" availableonline.
