January 18, 2022 - NDHSAA Member School Alums: Jon Lizotte, former boys hockey standout at Grand Forks Red River

This week's NDHSAA Alumni Spotlight shines on Jon Lizotte, a 2013 graduate of Grand Forks Red River High School. Below is a list of accomplishments in Lizotte's prep and collegiate athletic career.

JON LIZOTTE - PREP BOYS HOCKEY STANDOUT

GRADUATION YEAR: 2013, GRAND FORKS RED RIVER

HIGH SCHOOL BOYS HOCKEY CAREER

  • Collected 112 total points (32 goals, 80 assists) during his prep boys hockey career playing as a defenseman.

  • Helped Red River to NDHSAA Boys Hockey State Championships in 2013 and 2011.

  • Helped Red River to NDHSAA East Region Boys Hockey Championships in 2013, 2012 and 2011.

  • Served as senior captain for Grand Forks Red River his senior season (2012-13).

  • Collected 13 goals and 29 assists for the Roughriders during the 2012-13 season.

  • Had an assist in Red River's 7-1 win over Grafton/Park River during the 2013 NDHSAA boys hockey state championship game played at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

  • Captained Red River's stingy defense that yielded just one goal during the 2013 NDHSAA boys hockey state tournament.

  • Named to All-Tournament Team and Tournament MVP following the 2013 NDHSAA boys hockey state tournament.

  • Finished his junior season (2011-12) with nine goals and 27 assists while helping the Roughriders to a third-place finish at the 2012 NDHSAA Boys Hockey State Tournament.

  • Finished his sophomore season (2010-11) with seven goals and 17 assists.

  • Scored a point in all three of Red River's games at the 2011 NDHSAA Boys Hockey State Tournament including one assist in the Roughriders' 3-0 win over Grafton/Park River in the 2011 NDHSAA boys hockey state championship game played at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Lizotte totaled six assists during the three-game tournament.

  • Finished his freshman season (2009-10) with three goals and seven assists.

  • Totaled 13 points (three goals and 10 assists) in nine state tournament games played in his prep boys hockey career.

  • Named the 2013 North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) Boys Hockey Senior Athlete of the Year.

  • Three-time North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) All-State Boys Hockey Team selection (senior, junior and sophomore seasons).

JUNIOR HOCKEY CAREER

  • Played two seasons with the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

  • Tallied 61 points (21 goals and 40 assists) in two seasons with Minot.

COLLEGIATE MEN'S HOCKEY CAREER

  • Totalled 46 points (10 goals and 36 assists) in 147 games played at St. Cloud State University (2015-2019).

  • Named an Alternate Captain during his senior year with the Huskies (2018-19).

  • Helped St. Cloud State to NCAA Division Men's Hockey National Tournament appearances in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

  • Helped St. Cloud State to a National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Tournament Championship in 2016.

  • Helped St. Cloud State to National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Regular Season Championships his junior and senior seasons (2017-18, 2018-19).

PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY CAREER

  • Signed a two-way contract with the Minnesota Wild prior to the 2021-22 National Hockey League (NHL) Season.

  • Made his NHL debut playing with the Minnesota Wild on October 28, 2021.

  • Currently is playing with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) where he has totaled seven points (two goals and five assist) in 26 games played during the 2021-22 season.

  • Prior to signing a two-way contract with Minnesota Wild, Lizotte was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins organization playing parts of three seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL).

  • Totaled 28 points (four goals, 24 assists) in three seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

OTHER AWARDS/HONORS

  • Multiple-Time All-NCHC Academic Team honoree and NCHC Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
