ENGIE opens 2nd call for proposals for innovative and inclusive educational projects

ENGIE Brasil Energia recognizes the importance of education and its power for driving social transformation, seen by the Company as one of its key pillars supporting activities in the regions where it conducts operations. It is in this light that as from September 29, enrollments are being accepted for the 2nd Call for Proposals, which will recognize and award educators that develop experiments for enhancing the education of children and adolescents. The Call for Proposals 2022 is part of the Education Program, launched by ENGIE Brasil Energia on August 25, a set of initiatives for actions involving the main themes and challenges affecting Brazilian education.

The Company is to award up to 25 experiments developed by educational professionals working in both private and public-school networks. Projects with the potential for replication in other locations are also eligible for participation. There are four possible categories: practices which contribute to mitigating school absenteeism, grade repetition or age/grade distortion; initiatives which help improvement in student performance in the instrumental disciplines (Portuguese and mathematics); experiences which reinforce the use of technologies, creative thinking and innovation; and actions which foster environmental education and/or critical social thinking and citizenship building.

Those experiments, adherents to the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), will be awarded R$ 5 thousand for investing in the project itself and a notebook for the educator responsible. "ENGIE has always supported educational projects but with the challenges arising from the pandemic, it has become even more urgent to develop structured programs expanding actions for the benefit of students, teachers and schools, collaborating together in reducing the time taken to recover from these impacts", comments Luciana Nabarrete, Chief Administration Officer at ENGIE Brasil Energia.

In the educational sector, over the past ten years, the Company has invested approximately R$ 8 million in supporting more than 1200 projects. In 2021, the Call for Proposals focused on initiatives for reducing school absenteeism or in the development of new competences and skills for teachers and/or students. More than 150 enrollments were received. Of these, 30 initiatives were selected, distributed across 12 states where the Company has its operations. From the time of making the awards, the winners are monitored, the expectation being that the impact will reach out to approximately 8 thousand children and adolescents.

Enrollments must be made by October 21 through the Prosas platform, the link for which can be found by accessing www.engie.com.br/editaleducacao. The winners of the call will be announced on November 25.
