Latin Lawyer Recognizes Dechert for Avianca Restructuring

A Dechert LLP matter - the Chapter 11 restructuring of Latin American airline Avianca - has been recognized by Latin Lawyer as "Restructuring of the Year" in the publication's 16th annual Deals of the Year Awards.

Latin Lawyer selects winning deals for their novelty, complexity, impact and significance of the legal work involved, which must have taken place in the previous calendar year.

A Dechert team led by Allan Brilliant, co-chair of the firm's financial restructuring practice, advised U.S. hedge fund Citadel Advisors LLC in connection with Avianca's out-of-court restructuring and subsequent Chapter 11 cases.

Latin Lawyer frequently recognizes matters handled by Dechert's restructuring team. In 2021, the US$2.45 billion debtor-in-possession financing extended to Chile's LATAM Airlines was named "Banking & Finance Deal of the Year" in the publication's 15th annual Deals of the Year Awards. Dechert is advising the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in LATAM's Chapter 11 proceedings.

The year before, the restructuring of Brazilian oil-and-gas driller Serviços Petróleo de Constellation was named "Restructuring of the Year." In that matter, Dechert served as international counsel to a large holder of Constellation's 2024 bonds.
