West Palm Beach City Commission, Community Redevelopment Agency Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (06-15-2022) - Below is a summary of some of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission during the City Commission and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meetings on Monday, June 13, 2022.

CITY ATTORNEY - Approved on first reading Ordinance 5007-22 that will require landlords to provide a 60-day notice for termination of leases for a month-to-month tenant or a rent increase of more than five (5) percent; approved Ordinance 5005-22 on first reading to amend the lease agreement and include two parcels at the old City golf course; approved Ordinance 5006-22 to re-align the City Code moving Article V from City Code Chapter 18 to City Code Chapter 22

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES - Approved on second reading two ordinances designating the Sunshine Park Neighborhood as a Historic District and adjusting the zoning designation; approved a replat of the Banyan Cay Resort property on Presidential Way; and replat of the Flagler Forte site at 1333 South Flagler Drive.

ENGINEERING - Approved vacating six (6)-foot utility easement at 901 45^th Street to allow a new right-turn lane at St. Mary's Medical Center.

FIRE DEPARTMENT - Approved an agreement with Palm Beach County to continue having the County provide fire vehicle maintenance.

HOUSING and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - Approved a term sheet to negotiate the terms of the sale of City-owned property at 8111 S. Dixie Highway for $10.5 million. The property will be a mixed-use project with 210 dwelling units, retail, grocery store, public space and parking.

PARKS & RECREATION - Approved funding for major improvements to the Gaines Park Community Center as outlined in the voter-approved 2020 Parks Bond Issue.

POLICE - Approved amended applications for U.S. Department of Justice grants under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) to fund specialized police equipment, new surveillance equipment and new technology to enhance officer wellness.

UTILITIES - Approved filing Resilient Florida grant application with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to address sea level rise and other environmental impacts; approved transfer of funds to increase water and sewer line capacity as art of the Northmore Neighborhood Improvements Project.

COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY

Below are the actions taken by the City Commission seated as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).

Approved a Northwest Neighborhood Paint, Plant and Pave Program grant not-to-exceed $20,000 for improvements to the property at 309 Division Avenue; approved a Facade grant for $75,000 to improve the property at 901 North Sapodilla Avenue; approved the transfer of funds for the Northwood Road extension conceptual alignment study; continued a plan for a three-year extension to the existing contract with Redevelopment Management Associates; continued a resolution on workforce housing in the Downtown CRA area; denied a resolution for the sale of property at 614 7^th Street.
