Senator Young Recognizes Hoosier Students Interning in Washington this Summer

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) recognized Hoosier students who participated in the first session of his summer internship program in Washington, D.C.

The students assisted legislative and communications staff with daily activities and special projects. The intern class included [as pictured from left to right] Alex Kukura, a junior at Indiana University from Westfield; Jared Smith, a recent graduate of Taylor University from Upland; Sui Len Par, a junior at Indiana University from Indianapolis; Rachel Hudson, a recent graduate from Fishers; Andrew Murry, a recent graduate of Indiana University; and Alaina Kalin, a senior at Indiana University.

"I admire Senator Young's stance on certain issues and I hope to work on [Capitol Hill] one day. I hope to learn more about how the Senator interacts with his constituents and how policies form," said Sui Len Par from Indianapolis. "My journey as a refugee from Myanmar piqued my interest."

"I applied to serve and gain experience in the U.S. Senate as I look to work in government after college. Economic development, at home and abroad, is a passion I have that connects to the Senator's mission in Washington," said Jared Smith from Upland. "The Senator's USICA bill - the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act - piqued my interest in the government's ability to spur strategic innovation as the U.S. seeks a generational advantage over China."

"I have such a passion for government and a connection to Indiana, so this internship seemed like the perfect fit," said Rachel Hudson from Fishers. "I really want to learn the day-to-day work of a staffer on Capitol Hill and also to get experience on the legislative side of government."

"[I wanted] to see first-hand how Congressional offices function and the more detailed aspects of the legislative process that you can't really see from the outside," said Alex Kukura from Westfield.

Senator Young's office offers internship opportunities year-round, in both his Washington and Indianapolis offices. The internship program offers students the opportunity to experience the legislative branch of government and serve Hoosiers.

Students interested in applying can visit Senator Young's internship webpage or call (202)-224-5623 to learn more.

Senator Young released a video to provide more information about the internship program.
