Largest-Ever Community Grant Among HDR Foundation's Latest Awards

The HDR Foundation's latest awards include grants to Street Collective in Des Moines, IA, Denver Urban Gardens in Denver, CO, and Midlands Fatherhood Coalition in Sumter, SC.

The HDR Foundation announced its last 2021 grants, which include the organization's largest-ever community grant of $100,000 to the Denver Urban Gardens. In all, the foundation awarded 11 grants totaling $476,091, including its first grants in central Iowa and New Hampshire.

The largest-ever grant addresses two causes that continue to be important to HDR employees - addressing food insecurity and sustainability.

"I could not be more excited about the HDR Foundation's award to Denver Urban Gardens," said Jason Longsdorf, transportation practice group leader, who sponsored a $100,000 grant to fund the installation of sustainability elements at 20 urban gardens in under-resourced communities throughout the Denver area. "Many of us from the Denver office have been volunteering with DUG for the last few years and have really impressed by their connection and contribution to the community. We were excited to work with them in developing this new initiative - and even more excited to be able to help fund it."

Employees also continue to support causes that improve mobility and equity in life experiences, which are central to the foundation's first grants in Des Moines, Iowa.

"These two grant awards will make lasting impacts to the Polk County Conservation Board and the Des Moines Street Collective, both of which have missions to serve the underserved in our community," said Joe Spradling, Iowa office principal, who sponsored a grant for vehicles to support a program that supplies bicycles to low income, homeless and marginalized individuals in Des Moines. "We are fortunate to have local HDR employees that are passionate about these non-profits and have selflessly volunteered time to further their missions and create a more inclusive and equitable community."

Other grants involve being there for community members in their greatest time of need.

"I have volunteered with Friends of the Henniker Rescue Squad for over 26 years, and this was the first time I could marry my work family with my volunteer family," said Tom French, New Hampshire office lead and department manager, who sponsored a grant that will support pre-hospital emergency care to the sick and injured in his community. "I am so honored to be a part of the first HDR Foundation grant in New Hampshire."
