Congressman Cohen Commemorates Yom HaShoah

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today recognized Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, which will be commemorated beginning Sunday, May 5, at sundown. The observance coincides with the 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, which is also the date of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943. As a state senator, Cohen sponsored, and the Tennessee General Assembly passed, legislation to create the Tennessee Holocaust Commission. A special part of its work is educating teachers about Holocaust history. Congressman Cohen served as an ex-officio member of the commission during his tenure in the state senate. In Congress, Congressman Cohen has been a consistent supporter of legislation and other Congressional efforts to remember those lost in the Holocaust.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Every year we remember the darkest days in history by focusing attention on those lost in the Holocaust and vowing 'never again.' As another Yom HaShoah begins, let us renew our abiding commitment to a pluralistic society of democratic values that stands up to intolerance and condemns discrimination and bigotry in all their forms."
