Meeks Issues Statement on the Anniversary of the Signing of the “Abraham Accords”

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement recognizing the first anniversary of the signing of the Abraham Accords:

'Today represents the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Abraham Accords between the United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Israel. Shortly after, the Kingdom of Morocco and Sudan would become parties to the agreement as well. These historic agreements have proven the value and power of diplomacy in bringing Arab-majority nations and the Jewish State together.

'I believe the normalization agreements, although still in their infancy, are already helping to advance regional dialog, further diplomatic openings, and will enhance a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

'I also believe these diplomatic efforts are starting to transform the region for the better by spurring economic growth, enhancing technological innovation, and forging closer people-to-people relations.

'I'm honored to be co-leading important legislation that helps focus our government on nurturing the agreements already in place and encourages efforts to bring additional nations to the table. I intend to move this legislation through our committee soon.'
