Rig Supervisor Eric Aspeitia and his team were nominated for Spot Awards in March thanks to their quick thinking to initiate a Stop Work intervention, potentially avoiding a safety risk at their worksite.

Rig Crew BW1453 were in the process of running in the hole with tubing when the crew noticed an abnormal sound coming from the crown area. The crew stopped the job, notified the onsite XTO Representative, SBU P&A Management, and maintenance team.

The maintenance team was dispatched and after assessment it was determined the rig would need to be down to facilitate the repairs. A collaborative plan with XTO was developed to lay down the remaining 15 stands from the derrick. With Ranger and XTO Operations and HSE Leadership onsite, a JSA/Variance was developed, approved, and the tubing laydown was executed successfully. The rig was repaired and later returned to services.

We commend Aspeitia and Rig Crew BW1453 for taking the necessary actions when they realized something was not right, for participating in planning, and for executing this non-routine task flawlessly. These collective actions support Ranger's culture of Safety and reinforce our focus on creating safe working environments for crews in the field.
