Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement after the death of former Michigan Governor William Milliken:
'The state of Michigan has lost a statesman. Governor Milliken lived a life of service as a World War II veteran, an elected official, and our state's longest-serving Governor. Compromise was never a dirty word for Governor Milliken. He was a kind soul and served our state with conviction, compassion and a sense of civility. Governor Milliken exemplified all that is good about serving in elected office.
'Governor Milliken was a mentor to me, having appointed me to the Michigan Substance Abuse Advisory Council when I was still in high school. Later in life, I was proud to serve with him on the Michigan Land Use Leadership Council. I will miss his friendship and advice. Jennifer and I extend our thoughts to Governor Milliken's family.'
