AHN's Anastasios Kapetanos, MD, FACP, recognized with American College of Physicians Pennsylvania Chapter's highest award

PITTSBURGH - Anastasios Kapetanos, MD, FACP, program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Allegheny Health Network (AHN), has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Physicians (PA-ACP) in the Western Region with the 2021 Laureate Award. Dr. Kapetanos was recently presented with the award at the chapter's annual scientific meeting held in Harrisburg.

According to the PA-ACP, the Laureate Award is the chapter's highest honor of distinction and is designed to recognize those Fellows and Masters of the College who have demonstrated, by their example and conduct, an abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education and research, as well as service to their community, their chapter and the ACP. Dr. Kapetanos has been a member of the PA-ACP for 13 years.

"Dr. Kapetanos has been a champion for all the values endorsed by the ACP - dedication to patient care, advocacy for patients and physicians and commitment to equity in health care. For many years, he has participated in and organized multiple ACP educational activities. In addition, he is a well-recognized teacher, scientist and leader," said Ibrahim Ghobrial, MBBCh, MRCP, FACP, governor, PA-ACP Western Region. "Among these activities, he has served as a mentor, a judge, a visionary and - above all - a voice of reason. I have had the privilege of working with him for many years."

Under Dr. Kapetanos' leadership, the AHN Internal Medicine Residency Program aims to cultivate residents who will become exemplary physicians as measured by their passion, social responsibility, ethical behavior, humanism and tolerance. The program offers opportunities for development in both inpatient and ambulatory internal medicine and the subspecialties. The Internal Medicine Residency program is part of the graduate medical education (GME) opportunities offered by the AHN Medical Education Consortium.
