The National Emergency Operations Committee (NEOC), chaired by Acting Deputy Governor, Ms Gloria McField-Nixon, has begun overnight work in the Government Administration Building (GAB) today (Tuesday, 17 August 2021) to coordinate emergency operations for Tropical Storm Grace.

As TS Grace heads towards the Cayman Islands, the NEOC got an update from National Weather Service Director Mr. John Tibbetts who explained that a Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch have been issued as a precaution for this weather system since it is still predicted to become a hurricane upon passing Grand Cayman.

(The full 7 pm weather update on Tropical Storm Grace can be obtained at www.weather.gov.ky and www.caymanprepared.ky . The next complete storm update will be issued after the 10 pm bulletin.)

Heads of the various clusters outlined actions expected from their teams. These clusters help manage operations under NEOC including infrastructure; emergency response, which is comprised of uniformed branches, 911 services, and other agencies; human services including shelters management, mental health and Travel Cayman; as well as Support Services including communication support.

Hazard Management Cayman Islands Director Danielle Coleman led the meeting. NEOC will continue operations until the All Clear is sounded.
