Junior tied a school record with a final-round 66 (-5) he closed out the 54-hole event tied for 10th place in the field of 55 golfers. Harvey completed the three rounds with a total of 218 (74-78-76), one shot better than freshman teammate , who tied for 13th at 219 (74-68-77). Shofner's 68 was the Comet's lowest round through either of the first two rounds played by UTD on Monday.
Sophomore tied for 20th at 221 (72-72-77), senior tied for 27th at 224 (76-74-74) and senior tied for 42nd at 228 (75-75-78). Sophomore , playing as an individual, tied for 36th at 227 (78-74-75).
McMurry claimed the team title of the two-day event, finishing the 54 holes with a total of 853 (279-291-283), 12 shots better than runner-up U. Dallas (865). Trinity finished third at 872, Southwestern fourth at 876 and LeTourneau fifth at 877. UTD (295-289-294) tied with host TLU at 878 for sixth place. The Comets' second-round total of 289 was the lowest of any of the 10 teams during the second set of 18 holes.
Harvey becomes just the second UTD men's golfer to record a 66 in competition in program history, joining former Comet Ryan Bell. Bell posted a 66 in the second round of this same event in the fall of 2014.
The Comets return to the links Sept. 30-Oct. 1 when they travel to Belton for the UMHB Fall Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Mary Hardin-Baylor. The event will take place at the Wildflower Country Club.
