Traffic Advisory: Collyer Street Remains Closed to Vehicular Traffic, Open to Pedestrian Travel Starting 10/15

October 16, 2021

PROVIDENCE, RI - The City of Providence announced today that Collyer Street will remain closed to all vehicular traffic but open for pedestrian travel beginning on October 15, 2021 at 5:00PM. Pedestrian travel is limited to the east side of Collyer Street (closest to North Main Street).

Certified engineers within the City's Department of Public Works completed a site visit yesterday afternoon (10/15) and determined the need for structural repairs.

Individuals seeking access to the shopping plaza or businesses on Collyer Street should pursue alternate access from Ann Mary Street, which runs off North Main Street at the Pawtucket city line. The City's Department of Public Works will install detour signs as early as next week.

Collyer Street was included in the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and was scheduled to begin improvements in late 2022. The City is currently determining a timeline to address these issues sooner than scheduled.
