Be Ready for Anything: Emergency Preparedness Week 2022

May 1to 7 marks Emergency Preparedness Week across Canada, a week dedicated to inspiring residents to take action and be better prepared before, during and after an emergency.

According to the City' 2021 community survey on emergency preparedness, 47.2 per cent of respondents said they have discussed emergency preparedness with their family. While this is a great start, residents are encouraged to engage their loved ones in knowing the risks, making a plan, and building a 72-hour emergency kit.

To build a 72-hour emergency kit for your home and/or vehicle, start by adding these essential items:

At home:

  • First aid kit
  • Copies of important documents in a safe/secondary place
  • Canned or non-perishable food
  • Flashlights
  • Portable power bank

In your vehicle:

  • Water
  • Flashlight
  • Extra windshield washer fluid
  • Blanket
  • Small shovel
