Inauguration of Renewable Energy Demonstration Project

The Department of Renewable Energy inaugurated the successfully completed Renewable Energy Demonstration project consisting of 11.7 kWp of Solar Photo-Voltaic Car Park & 500 Litres Per Day Solar Water Heating System in the MoEA complex. The event was graced by His Excellency Tengye Lyonpo. His Excellency highlighted that the event marks an essential milestone towards energy diversification to enhance the security of the nation. Although modest in scale, this project reflects the capabilities and opportunities for Bhutan to venture into alternative renewable energy such as solar energy.

The project was conceived with an objective to showcase and enhance the local capacity in renewable energy technologies while also creating public awareness and confidence in the systems. This solar PV plant will also serve as a learning and data collection platform for our engineers which would, in turn, encourage informed decision and policy making.

The Department remains grateful to Mr. Andrew & Mrs. Carol Phelps based in Wisconsin, United States of America, and Austrian Corporation Office, Bhutan for generous funding of the Solar Car Park and Solar Water Heating System.
