County Council to Honor Veteran Joseph Sicinski

The Volusia County Council will honor 92-year-old Port Orange resident Joseph Sicinski, who has been inducted into the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame, on Tuesday, May 21, at the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand.

County Council members will unveil a plaque in the first-floor rotunda at 3:15 p.m., then present a proclamation to Sicinski at 4 p.m. during the County Council meeting.

Sicinski served honorably in the Korean War as a crew chief for F-84 jet fighter bombers with the 49th Fighter Bomber Squadron in Japan and Korea. He was later deployed to the United States to join the 4701st Airborne Early Warning Squadron in Sacramento, California.

After leaving the military, Sicinski founded firms that provided technical writing and contract engineering services, both of which supported the aerospace industry. He's a well-known asset to the veterans community, having served aspresident and commander of the Korean War Veterans Association in Port Orange, vice president for the state association, and first vice president of the Veterans Museum and Education Centerin Daytona Beach.

The State of Florida established the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame in 2013 to recognize and honor those military veterans who, through their works and lives during or after military service, have made a significant contribution to the State of Florida. To date, 151 Floridians have been inducted. In addition to Sicinski, Volusia County inductees were Dr. Frank Farmer, Frank Hahnel, Rod Phillips, Jose Rosa, David Rose, and the late John Brinkley.
