Patterson Belknap Launches Season Two of Podcast Honoring The Legal Legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP announced today the launch of Season Two of 'Notorious: The Legal Legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg,' a podcast that explores the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's cases, decisions, dissents, and her substantial overall impact on the rule of law in the United States.

Justice Ginsburg was a force in American jurisprudence. Her decisions and dissents offered a thoughtful and rigorous legal analysis, and demonstrated her steadfast commitment to gender and racial equality, and equal justice for all. One year after the passing of Justice Ginsburg, Patterson Belknap is proud to honor her memory and present a second season of this podcast, sponsored by Women Lawyers at Patterson. Hosted by Patterson Belknap Partner Michelle M. Bufano, Season Two of 'Notorious' will include more in-depth discussions of Justice Ginsburg's decisions and dissents. The episodes will air for six consecutive days beginning Monday, September 13th, with our final episode airing on Saturday, September 18th-the one year anniversary of Justice Ginsburg's passing.

The first episode of Season Two explores Justice Ginsburg's influence on overcriminalization in our justice system. Other episodes will cover cases such as Gonzalez v. Carhart, which involved the Supreme Court's consideration of The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003, and Grutter v. Bollinger, which discussed the question of whether a law school admissions policy that considered race as a factor in admissions violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Our final episode will cover the 2020-2021 Supreme Court Term and look back at specific cases and instances where Justice Ginsburg's influence is still alive and well. Guests in these episodes will include Brown University professor and constitutional law scholar Corey Brettschneider; Joshua Block, Senior Staff Attorney with the ACLU's LGBT & HIV Project; and Mai Ratakonda, a Senior Staff Attorney with Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

'Following the success and interest in the first season, Women Lawyers at Patterson wanted to continue this tribute to Justice Ginsburg's historic contributions to the Supreme Court and our profession,' said Lisa E. Cleary, the Firm's Co-Chair and Managing Partner. 'Justice Ginsburg exemplified the highest ideals of the legal profession, and we are proud to honor her legacy by continuing an analysis of her critical body of work through this podcast.' Women Lawyers at Patterson has served as a resource group for women at the Firm since 2006, providing a forum to address matters of professional development, internal and external networking, and other issues that might resonate particularly with women lawyers.
