Varna, the Bulgarian secret seaside capital on the Black Sea Coast, has been enjoying increasing popularity with sun worshippers for years. From now on, Wizz Air flies twice a week to Varna from Berlin-Schönefeld. An Airbus A320 will fly to the Bulgarian port city every Tuesday and Saturday, with a flight time of two and a half hours. Since launching in Berlin-Schönefeld in 2016, the Hungarian airline has continuously expanded its route network from Berlin. In addition to the new connection to Varna, the airline will be flying from Berlin to eight other destinations in Eastern and Southeastern Europe this summer.
The third largest city in Bulgaria is the most important port city of the Southeastern European country for a reason: The seaside resort today is not only one of the largest transport centres in the country, but also a popular bathing resort thanks to the beach on its doorstep and its picturesque coast. The famous Golden Sands, with its miles of shimmering gold beaches, is only a half an hour's drive away. On the other hand, if you're a spa lover or are not too fond of beaches, then you can enjoy the benefits of bubbling mineral springs in the numerous thermal and mineral baths. Even the Romans knew about the beneficial health effects of mineral springs, as you can find out by visiting the old Roman baths in the city centre. If you fancy a stroll around the city, then a visit to the Dormition of the Mother of God Cathedral is recommended, with its imposing dome and striking murals. Another highlight is the singing fountain. Especially in the evenings, the fountain with its interplay between water fountains, lights and melodies is a breathtaking spectacle. The seaside capital of Bulgaria - with its historical buildings, heavenly sandy beaches and cultural offerings - is not only suitable for long beach holidays, but also for an exploration through the centuries-old history of the city and surrounding region.
