Statement of the President on Georgia's Participation in Peacekeeping Efforts in Afghanistan

For years, Georgia has been actively participation in the international peacekeeping mission led by NATO in Afghanistan.

Since the launch of the Resolute Support Mission, the Georgian armed forces have made a significant contribution to the difficult process of strengthening peace and security in Afghanistan.

We are proud of the professionalism and dedication with which the Georgian military has made itself known by our strategic partners. Its professionalism has deserved many high praise from both NATO and partner countries' officials.

By fulfilling this difficult mission, Georgia proved more than once its important role for global peace and stability.

I want to thank every soldier who sacrificed their lives and their health for peace and who carried the flag of Georgia with dignity.

Georgian units will start gradually leaving the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan together with NATO forces and partner states.

A secure and peaceful Afghanistan must be maintained for a long time to come and Georgia will work with NATO and partner countries for that matter.

By participating in the Resolute Support Mission, the Georgian armed forces have demonstrated that on the road to NATO, they will be able to cope with crucial tasks of collective defense and security with dignity and responsibility.

We are proud that Georgia, a trusted and reliable partner of NATO, together with the members of the Alliance, has made a great contribution to ensuring world peace and security.
