In the week of 12th September 2022, the Czech EU Presidency will organise several events in the Czech Republic and abroad to promote climate protection, the environment and biodiversity in the world. By doing so, the Czech Republic wants to claim its responsibility for tackling the crucial global issue of climate change.

"Engaging in climate diplomacy in the world can be an opportunity to contribute to the modernisation of our country and to strengthening its competitiveness," said the Czech diplomatic chief.

So-called green diplomacy is one of the priorities of the Czech Presidency. The Czech diplomacy seeks to connect climate security and development and humanitarian cooperation, especially in the field of disaster risk reduction. "An example of linking the two priorities of the Presidency - green diplomacy and cooperation with the Indo-Pacific - is the international conference on wildlife conservation. We are organising this in Jakarta in mid-September. This is one of the concrete contributions of the EU's cooperation with the region," Lipavský added.

"The current European energy crisis, escalated by Russian aggression in Ukraine, is clearly linked to the climate crisis. And there is only one answer to both: an end to the use of fossil fuels as quickly and consistently as possible. The crucial thing is that the costs of reducing dependence on fossil fuels should not be borne by low-income groups - they are the ones we need to help most during this time. That is why one of the most important points of the Czech Presidency is the negotiation of the Social Climate Fund, which will enable us to help people through investment and compensation," said Minister Anna Hubáčková.

The most important events of the campaign #Czechia4Climate include the International Conference on Adaptation to Climate Change in Prague on 13th and 14th September, the International Conference on Climate Security in Prague on 15th September, and the High Level Dialogue on Wildlife Conservation in Jakarta, Indonesia on 13th and 15th September.

In parallel, the EU Council working bodies on development cooperation and humanitarian aid or on international environmental issues will meet in Prague. EU climate ambassadors will also meet in Prague at the same time to discuss joint diplomatic efforts to ensure a successful UN COP27 climate conference in Egypt in the autumn.
