Virtus Bologna replaces TTT Riga in Regular Season

MUNICH (Europe) - Italy's Virtus Segafredo Bologna will replace TTT Riga in the EuroLeague Women 2022-23 Regular Season field, after the Latvian club informed FIBA Europe on Thursday that it will be unable to take part in the competition.

The Bologna club, which was initially scheduled to play in the Qualifiers, was awarded the vacant direct berth in the Regular Season as the second-ranked team from the fifth-ranked national federation (Italy), according to club competition ranking regulations.

Revised list of clubs with a Regular Season berth:

Consequently, the number of teams taking part in the Qualifiers is reduced to eight, from nine. Virtus were set to compete in a Qualifier tournament against Villeneuve d'Ascq-LM (FRA) and Spar Girona (ESP).

Following the modification, the French and the Spanish club will play a home-and-away series to determine the team that will progress to the EuroLeague Women Regular Season, with the losing club transferring to the Conference 2 of the EuroCup Women Regular Season. Spar Girona, as the team with the higher club ranking will host Villeneuve d'Ascq-LM in the return leg of the tie.
