Chairman Scott Celebrates Tabatha Rosproy, Juliana Urtubey as 2020 and 2021 National Teachers of the Year

WASHINGTON - Chairman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after joining the President and First Lady in recognizing the 2020 and 2021 State and National Teachers of the Year, Tabatha Rosproy and Juliana Urtubey. Ms. Rosproy is a preschool teacher in Kansas and Ms. Urtubey is a special education teacher for elementary school students in Nevada.

"I am proud to celebrate Ms. Rosproy and Ms. Urtubey as the 2020 and 2021 National Teachers of the Year. Teaching throughout the pandemic has been extraordinarily challenging for educators, yet our nation's teachers have gone above and beyond to serve students, parents, and their communities.

"As the first ever early childhood educator to be named Teacher of the Year, Ms. Rosproy's work to teach preschool children within a retirement community and nursing home highlights the power of community involvement in educating our students and the importance of high-quality early childhood education and social emotional learning for all students. Ms. Urtubey's individualized lesson plans for students with disabilities and her efforts to beautify her school communities demonstrate the importance of meeting every student where they are to support their holistic wellbeing and development.

"Congratulations to Ms. Rosproy, Ms. Urtubey, as well as the State Teachers of the Year and all the teachers across our nation for your sustained commitment to students throughout the pandemic.
