Wayne County: Construction update

WAYNE COUNTY- (Thursday, April 25, 2024) - The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Wayne County next week. All outlined work is weather permitting and is subject to change.

Back Massillon Road culvert replacement - Back Massillon Road, just east of the intersection at SR 57 (Wadsworth Road), will close Monday, April 29 for a culvert replacement. SR 57 will remain open with single lane traffic. The detour route will be Back Massillon Road to SR 94 north to SR 585 south to SR 57 south to Back Massillon Road, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, May 3, 2024State Route 21 Major Rehabilitation - State Route 21, from the Stark and Summit County lines, will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction to reconstruct the roadway. Major work includes full-depth pavement replacement, bridge maintenance, culvert and drainage replacements, and safety improvements at four intersections along the project.

NEW IMPACTS

• Signal timing at SR 21 and Edwards Road has been adjusted to increase green time for through lanes along SR 21; thus, helping to reduce delays at the intersection.
• Cement stabilization is taking place and crossover lighting installation is occurring at the north and south ends of the project.

CONTINUING IMPACTS

• SR 21 southbound has the right lane closed for shoulder repair work. Please drive with caution in the area as crews enter and exit the work zone.

• Crews will begin placing temporary pavement and paving crossovers in order to move all traffic onto the southbound lanes and close the northbound lanes.
• Two lanes of northbound traffic and one lane of southbound traffic will be maintained.
• Traffic will be maintained at Clinton, Edwards, and Eastern Road intersections, and right-turn movements will be maintained at Grill Road.

Estimated completion of entire project: June 2026

State Route 57 culvert replacement - NEW IMPACTS -State Route 57, near the east side of the Fox Lake Road intersection, will close Monday, May 6 for a culvert replacement. The detour route will be SR 57 north to Back Massillon Road east to SR 94 north to SR 585 south to SR 57, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, May 10, 2024State Route 83 Major Rehabilitation - State Route 83, from just south of U.S. 30 to Milltown Road, will have daily lane closures for final pavement repairs and resurfacing, striping, concrete median wall repairs, and miscellaneous finalization project work. Traffic will be maintained in one 11' lane in each direction at all times and traffic will be separated by portable concrete barrier wall.Estimated completion: June 2024State Route 585 resurfacing -State Route 585, from just west of SR 57 to SR 604, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times utilizing flaggers. Estimated completion: September 2024
