Two WellSpan Health Nurses Honored

Two WellSpan Health nurses honored with

Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania

YORK, Pa. (OCT. 27, 2021) - WellSpan Health announces today that two of its nurses have been selected as winners of the prestigious Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania.

  • Alison Arrowood, nursing operations director at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, was announced as the Nightingale Award winner in the Nursing Administration - Executive category.
  • Helen Copenheaver, magnet program director and professional development specialist at WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital, received the Nightingale Award in the Nursing Education - Staff Development category.

"These nurses have demonstrated a commitment to their patients and fellow staff," said Kris O'Shea, senior vice president and chief nursing executive, WellSpan Health and 2013 Nightingale Award winner. "Both Alison and Helen deserve to be recognized for their extraordinary work. This continues a tradition at WellSpan of our nurses being recognized by the Nightingale Awards, and we are proud of all three of our nurses who were named finalists."

Three WellSpan nurses were named finalists for the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania, from almost 100 nominations received across the state. Tiffany Downs, nurse manager from WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, was announced as one of the three Nightingale Award finalists in the Nursing Administration - Leader/Manager category.

WellSpan Health team members have won Nightingale Awards eight out of the last 10 years. Last year, Briana Wysocki with WellSpan VNA Home Care won the Nightingale Award in the Community Nursing category, Rosa Hickey from WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital won the award in the Nursing Administration - Executive category, and Katie Nolan from WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital won in the Nursing Education - Staff Development category.

The Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania is a statewide, philanthropic organization that aims to create, cultivate and support environments where professional nursing achievements are valued. Nightingale's volunteer board and committees utilize gifts, donations and annual gala proceeds to recognize excellence in a wide variety of nursing career paths, and financially contributes to the continuing education of nurses throughout Pennsylvania. Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania winners were announced at a virtual gala on Oct. 22.
