I'm pleased that, this morning, we'll be considering the nominations of David Waterman and Matthew Gannon, nominated by President Biden to be the U.S. Attorneys for the Southern and Northern Districts of Iowa, respectively. I join with my colleague, Joni Ernst, in supporting these two outstanding Iowans.?

Mr. Waterman is a fifth-generation lawyer at the Davenport law firm of Lane & Waterman. Previously, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Appellate and Criminal Divisions of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida. ?

In addition, Mr. Waterman served as a judicial law clerk for three federal court judges in Iowa: Judge Michael Melloy on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit; Judge Mark Bennett on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa; and Judge John Jarvey on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. Mr. Waterman received his B.A., summa cum laude, from George Washington University, his master's in philosophy from the University of Cambridge and his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.?

Mr. Gannon served as the First Assistant Attorney General for the Iowa Department of Justice under former Attorney General Tom Miller. ?

Previously, he served as the Assistant Attorney General for the Iowa Department of Justice and as an associate at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Arnold & Porter. Mr. Gannon received his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D., with high honors, from the University of Iowa College of Law.?

I'm confident these two highly-qualified nominees will faithfully serve the people of Iowa. I endorse both these nominations, and urge my colleagues to support them as well.
