Driver arrested for DUII after crashing into pole

On January 19 at 2:20 a.m., Eugene Police and Eugene Springfield Fire responded to E. 30th Avenue and Onyx Street after a Honda Civic was reported to have crashed into a pole. The power pole had been sheared off. The driver had left prior to ESF and EPD arrival.

At approximately 2:23 a.m., the driver, Gino Jordan Hinojos-Castle, age 30, of Eugene, called to report his vehicle had been stolen from a tavern. However, Eugene Police located Hinojos-Castle a few blocks away from the crash and he appeared intoxicated. Officers began investigating. During this, Hinojos-Castle was told about the inadvisability of filing a false report before he signed the stolen vehicle form.

After a thorough investigation, officers found probable cause to arrest Hinojos-Castle. He was taken to a local hospital to be cleared and then was lodged at the Lane County Jail for DUII, Reckless Driving, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and Initiate a False Report
