Corps to have virtual public meetings on Los Angeles County Drainage Area

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District is initiating a disposition study to evaluate opportunities for divestiture, disposal, and improvements to operations of the Los Angeles County Drainage Area.

The online public meetings are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Nov. 3 and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 10 and can be accessed at https://usace1.webex.com/meet/LACDADS.

The LACDA system includes approximately 45 miles of flood levees and channels under the responsibility of the Corps to operate and maintain, and a larger federal project with the non-federal partner, the Los Angeles County Flood Control District, consisting of 517 miles of channels and levees, 26 debris basins and five flood risk management dams.

The Los Angeles County Flood Control District has requested the study which is authorized under Section 216 of the Flood Control Act of 1970 to review the operation of completed Corps' projects. The Los Angeles County Drainage Area Disposition Study will determine whether there is sufficient federal interest in retention of the dam, it's structures and the surrounding federal lands or if ownership and operation should be transferred to a non-federal entity.

The virtual public meetings will give the public, stakeholders and other agencies the opportunity to provide comments on issues and concerns pertaining to the study.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the meeting will be conducted virtually in lieu of an in-person meeting. Participants can join by computer, telephone or other devices, such as electronic tablets. Written comments can be submitted to [email protected] until Dec. 3, 2021.
