Senior defender Morgan Moe spent her interim break with the nursing program travelling all over Ecuador, helping locals in the hospitals and in their communities.
'During the January Term, I traveled to the beautiful country of Ecuador with the Augustana nursing program,' said Moe. 'Our first destination was the capital city, Quito, Ecuador. While in Quito we participated in clinicals in the local hospitals, stayed with very welcoming host families and encountered some of the most breath-taking views the historic city had to offer.'
'Next, we ventured off into the Amazon Jungle. During our week in the jungle we visited several communities to offer clinics. We administered anti-parasite medications, fluoride varnish and teeth brushing instructions for the youth, as well as assessments for any health concerns. The jungle provided opportunities to hike to beautiful waterfalls, which was one of my favorite parts!'
'Finally, we were treated to a visit to the Galapagos Islands. Now that our work was done we were able to relax and enjoy the turquoise waters and white, sandy beaches. We interacted with the wildlife while snorkeling along the coast of the island, napped on the beach with the iguanas and consumed some delicious seafood. Overall, the month in Ecuador is one I will hold close to my heart because I learned so many important things about the world, visited some of the most beautiful places and met the most incredible people.'
