Vulnerable Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks Share Blame For Continued Attack on Women’s Freedoms and Threat To Abortion Rights

Today, the Supreme Court hears oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a challenge to a Mississippi law that bans abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy - which could unravel the constitutional right to abortion guaranteed by Roe v. Wade. Should this extreme law be upheld, 26 states could move to ban the right to abortion, and individuals across the country could have 50 years of precedent and constitutionally secured rights stripped away from them.

This Mississippi law is just one of the latest attacks on a woman's right to make her own decisions about her body. Republican extremism at every level of government is to blame for the continued threat to women's freedoms and health care.

Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks are to blame - their record proves it. In July, Hinson and Miller-Meeks signed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, despite the fact 77% of the American people support keeping Roe in place and 57% of Iowans say abortion should be legal in most or all cases. In September, when the House of Representatives sought to protect abortion and reproductive health care by voting on the Women's Health Protection Act, Hinson and Miller-Meeks voted "NO" along with the rest of the extremist GOP.

DCCC Spokesperson Elena Kuhn

"As the Supreme Court continues to hear oral arguments on backward anti-choice laws like the one in Mississippi, Iowans are reminded that Reps. Ashley Hinson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks are all too happy to further the radical crusade to outlaw all abortion in the United States and take away Iowans' freedoms to make personal decisions. Make no mistake - Hinson and Miller-Meeks are just two more politicians trying to control women's freedoms and take away their constitutional right to make their own health care decisions."
