No. 1 Augustana Softball Sweeps MSU-Denver on Friday

DENVER, Co. -- The last time Augustana Softball stepped on the field at the Regency Athletic Complex, they walked away with a National Championship. On Friday, the No. 1 Vikings continued to roll in the Rockies, collecting a 2-0 (11 innings) and 13-1 (5 innings) win over Metropolitan State University of Denver.

pitched a complete-game, 10 strikeout, 11 inning shutout for the longest win of her career in game one. Tied at 0 in the 11th, hit a two-run home run for the game-winning run. In game two, the Vikings (6-2) scored a season-high 13 runs, with eight players getting a hit, in the win.

Game One
took the circle in game one and was strong from the start. The junior allowed a hit in the bottom of the first, but retired the next 10 roadrunner batters.

The Vikings offense had an early opportunity in the first as singled to center, but Augustana couldn't push the run.

Mickschl continued to dominate in the later innings, going the distance for the victory. The All-American finished with 10 strikeouts and allowed just five hits in 37 batters faced. Mickschl (4-0) earned her third complete-game of the season and second shutout.

Augustana put the go-ahead run, , on second base in the top of the 7th, but an infield fly ended the inning. Moving to extra innings, both sides played a quiet three innings, until Elliott played hero in the 11th.

After Brink drew a walk, Elliott jumped on the first pitch she saw, crushing a two-run shot to left center. Her third-career home run proved to be the game-winning run. had four hits in the game one win.

Game Two
Augsutana started strong in game two, putting up six runs in the top of the first frame. With two runners on, connected on a solid single to right field. Moments later, followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Vikings benefited from five MSU-Denver errors in the first, including back-to-back errors that made it a 5-0 game. Lund continued her strong start to 2020 with an RBI single to left-center, scored Elliott and making it 6-0.

Elliott (2-0) also got the start in game two, collecting the win with four strong innings of work and four strikeouts. pitched a shutout fifth inning for the Vikings. Each pitcher allowed a pair of hits to the home team.

The Vikings added two more runs in the third, first on a Lund ground out and then on another error. Now leading 8-1 in the fifth, connected on her first triple of the year, driving in one run and tallying her second hit of the day.

Augustana put the game on ice later in the inning. Freshman smashed a double to left center for an RBI, singled to right to make it 12-1, and singled down the right-field for the game's final run.

Augustana stays in Denver for a pair of games on Saturday. The Vikings square up Colorado School of Mines for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Both games will be played at the Regency Athletic Complex.
