Chief of Staff of the Central Military District, Lieutenant General Yevgeny Ustinov, met in Dushanbe with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Tajikistan, ColonelcGeneral Sherali Mirzo.
Lieutenant General Yevgeny Ustinov and Colonel General Sherali Mirzo discussed topical issues of regional security in Central Asia, as well as measures for joint training of the Tajikistan's army and the 201st Russian military base in the new training year which starts on December 1.
During the meeting, Yevgeny Ustinov presented to the leadership of the Tajikistan's Ministry of Defence a new commander of the military base, Colonel Sergey Goryachev.
Sherali Mirzo noted that the Russian military base is the guarantor of stability in the Central Asian region. He also expressed gratitude to the Central Military District Command for assisting in training of junior specialists for the Republic's armed forces, and emphasized contribution of the Russian military to eliminating consequences of emergency situations in Tajikistan.
The 201st Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan is the Russia's largest military formation outside its borders. It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. According to the Agreement dated October 2012, the base shall station in Tajikistan until 2042.
