9-11 Observance

On Sunday, September 11, 2022 the City of Pembroke Pines, will remember and honor those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This day, known as Patriot Day or Nine-Eleven Day, is recognized by U.S. law as a National Day of Service and Remembrance and has been observed every year since that tragic day in 2001. The City of Pembroke Pines invites everyone to attend the 21st Anniversary of 911. The ceremony will take place on September 11, 2022, 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Park adjacent to the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way. The ceremony, which is free, will begin with the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and Fire Department Honor Guards. It will also include guest speakers, community leaders and patriotic music featuring local school bands and area musicians. Residents and guests are encouraged to tour the statues that are part of the memorial park, created to ensure this day is never forgotten.

Each year on Patriot Day, flags are flown half-staff, and fellow Americans observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) which marks the time that the first plane flew into the World Trade Center. This is not a federal holiday, so schools and businesses do not close and public transit systems run on their regular schedules. Patriot Day should not be confused with Patriot's Day, also known as Patriots Day, which commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775, which were two of the earliest battles in the American Revolutionary War.
