‘Tour de Barcelona’ charity ride for Maggie’s raises over £20k

On Friday 9^th September, our athletic colleagues from across the business set out on their biggest challenge to date, with the aim to pedal some 850 miles across Europe from Southampton to Barcelona.

It was all for a wonderful cause, raising funds for our corporate charity partner, Maggie's.

As they set out, they were presented with a crochet flower from the centre staff at Maggie's Southampton which would travel with each cyclist in turn and handed over to the team at Kalida, Barcelona.

Over nine days, numerous punctures, countless litres of water and van loads of energy gels and bars later, our peloton were tested to their limits as they tackled route diversions caused by French forest fires and impromptu river crossings. As the end was in sight, our lycra clad heroes battled an epic 2000m climb over the Pyrenees with a downhill descent into sideways rain before they crossed the finish line in Barcelona on Saturday evening.

Collectively they've raised a phenomenal £20,000 for Maggie's and all funds raised will mean that people with cancer receive support by expert staff, whether it's help for a friend, family member or carer, benefits advice, psychological support, or just a quiet place with a garden to enjoy.
