Las Vegas City Council Ratifies New Neighborhood Services Director
New Director Has More Than 15 Years Experience In Government And Nonprofit Sectors
At today's meeting, the Las Vegas City Council unanimously ratified Arcelia Barajas as the city's new director of the Neighborhood Services Department. She was selected for the position by City Manager Mike Janssen.
Barajas was previously promoted to deputy director of Neighborhood Services in 2019, and has served as acting director since December 2023. In her new role, Barajas will oversee services for the unhoused, seniors and veterans, as well as neighborhood initiatives and grants, and the city's health and wellness programs.
"I'm excited by the opportunity to lead the city's neighborhood initiatives and to assist our most vulnerable populations," Barajas said. "We have an outstanding team and I look forward to continuing to serve our residents."
Barajas has more than 15 years of experience working in the nonprofit and government sectors in Las Vegas. She joined the city of Las Vegas in 2015. She has a passion to empower under-served individuals and communities by providing the tools and education they need to make positive transformations.
Barajas graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Accounting, and a Master of Public Administration degree. Before working for the city of Las Vegas, Barajas worked for the Clark County Department of Family Services and the American Lung Association.
