STEM Subjects – at the Centre of Attention

On October 13, at the initiative of the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport a discussion was held on the programmes directed to the education of the natural science, technological, engineering and mathematical (STEM) subjects

The NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan, the Chair of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Sisak Gabrielyan and Committee member a number of the deputies, the RA Deputy Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan, the Head of the Budget Office and the experts of the sphere took part in the discussion.

It was noted in the discussion that, according to the Government programme, in 2026 the annual turnover in the sphere of technologies would grow - reaching from 200 bln AMD to about 500 bln AMD.

To reach this index it is necessary that until 2026 the number of the specialists of the sphere it increases by about 16.000, i.e. every year more than 3000 new specialists will be necessary in average.

A decision was made to establish laboratories at schools in STEM directions and set effective indices on the budget programmes for developing engineering, robot-building groups, develop the mechanisms of accountability of the programmes by state financing.

The importance of the involvement of the Ministries of Hi-Tech Industry and Economy during the implementation of the programmes in the general education sphere was also discussed.
