Cadets Earn Marksmanship Badges

Fourteen cadets from across the South Dakota Wing earned their NRA Pro-Marksmanship badge on June 11.

Firearms training used to be a major component of the cadet program in the 1940s and 1950s. Today, it is not a required activity, but one that many cadets enjoy participating in, and qualified senior members enjoy teaching.

The firearm safety and training day took place Saturday 11 June 2022 at the Lower Oahe Shooting Range near Fort Pierre.

Targets were paper plates. Cadets shot .22 caliber pistols. Past events have included training with .22 rifles.

The NRA-certified instructors were Capt. Richard Rezac, commander of the Miller/Faulkton flight, and his wife, the former commander of the flight, 1st Lt. Pandy Rezac.

Capt. Rezac reports that the cadets enjoyed the activity, and they would like to do a similar event in the future. Donations of .22 rounds are always welcome for future events.
