English/Español: Rubio, Risch, Condemn Maduro Regime’s New Illegitimate Scheme

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jim Risch (R-ID) issued the following joint statement after the selection of new members of the National Electoral Council (CNE) in Venezuela:

'The illegitimate actions of the Maduro regime, such as yesterday's announcement of a new electoral authority, must not be validated. The Biden Administration must not fall for this scheme, which will only prolong Maduro's authoritarian grip on the people of Venezuela. All who are genuinely concerned about the freedom and welfare of Venezuelans must stand firm in support of the conditions set out by the interim government of President Juan Guaidó and the National Assembly, both of which were democratically elected in 2015 to resolve Venezuela's crisis through legitimate, free, and fair presidential and legislative elections.'

Rubio is the Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues.

Risch is the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

RUBIO, RISCH CONDENAN NUEVA MANIOBRA ILEGÍTIMA DEL RÉGIMEN DE MADURO

Washington, DC - Los senadores estadounidenses Marco Rubio (R-FL) y Jim Risch (R-ID) emitieron el siguiente comunicado tras la selección de nuevos miembros del Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE) en Venezuela:

'Las acciones ilegítimas del régimen de Maduro, como el anuncio de ayer sobre una nueva autoridad electoral, no deben ser validadas. La administración Biden no debe caer en esta maniobra que solo prolongará el control autoritario de Maduro sobre el pueblo de Venezuela. Todos los que están genuinamente preocupados por la libertad y el bienestar de los venezolanos deben mantenerse firmes en apoyar las condiciones establecidas por el gobierno interino del presidente Juan Guaidó y por la Asamblea Nacional, ambos electos democráticamente en el 2015 para resolver la crisis de Venezuela a través de elecciones legítimas, libres y justas en el país.'

Rubio es el Miembro de Más Alto Rango del Subcomité sobre Hemisferio Occidental, Crimen Transnacional, Seguridad Civil, Democracia, Derechos Humanos y Asuntos Globales de la Mujer.
