LaPlace Woman Arrested on Insurance Fraud Charges
In December of 2018, Detectives were contacted by the Louisiana State Police Driver's Education Compliance Unit regarding possible fraudulent insurance coverage for a driving school. The initial investigation revealed that Williams was the owner of 'Spillway Safe Driving Academy, LLC,' and she listed a cancelled insurance policy for the business. Upon being notified of the cancelled policy and asked to provide an updated one, Williams created a fake email address purporting to be a legitimate insurance company and emailed submitted a fraudulent Certificate of Insurance in an attempt to show coverage. Detectives determined that Williams created the fake information on a computer belonging to her.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Williams through the 40th JDC in St. John Parish for violation of LRS 14:72.1.1- Forgery of a Certificate of Insuranceand 14:73.5- Computer Fraud. On May 1, 2019, Williams surrendered to investigators at the St. John Parish jail and was booked on the above charges.
