HONOLULU - Mark your calendars and please join us for a live video exploring the USS Utah shipwreck underwater. National Park Service divers will present a "Live Dive" video stream, December 9 2021 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. HST. Watching live on YouTube, you will see the ship in HD video while a diver swims around some of its most interesting intact features. Divers will discuss what happened to the USS Utah, what the ship is like today in Pearl Harbor, and answer many of your questions live. Additionally, a diver in a 1940s-era MK5 helmet and dive suit will talk about attempts to salvage the USS Utah right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The MK5 diver will demonstrate some of the salvage equipment, employed by the salvage divers and the innovative methods they used to overcome the unique challenges in order to save lives and ships in the aftermath of the attack.

The USS Utah is frequently referred to as the forgotten ship in Pearl Harbor, located on Ford Island, an active duty military base, access is incredibly restrictive. Many don't know the ship still rests on the bottom of Pearl Harbor or that there is a memorial to the men who perished aboard on December 7, 1941. The USS Utah is designated a National Historic Landmark, the highest form of recognition the United States places on historic properties. A Florida class battleship, it is recognized as ship that contributed to our nation's history from 1909 until 1941. Not only did the Utah participate in the ending of World War I and saw the beginning of World War II, but the vessel contributed to preparing sailors for the challenges of that war. This ship is revered for its many contributions to our nation's success and is cared for by the National Park Service as an active cemetery.

We hope you'll join us for this incredible event on our YouTube Page: Pearl Harbor National Memorial - YouTube and streamed to the screens at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center (1 Arizona Memorial Place, Honolulu HI 96818)
