Young Ladies Learning to Lead Conference and Competition

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of the University of the Virgin Islands hosted its second year of the Young Ladies Learning to Lead Conference and Competition.

The purpose of this event is to bring young girls together to acquire new knowledge and skills relative to personal and professional development, as well as an opportunity to learn and demonstrate leadership skills.

For the competition phase of the event, the young ladies are tasked with using the knowledge and skills acquired to implement an idea that will address a social problem, of their choosing, that impacts the Virgin Islands territory.

This year's participants represented private and public schools in the territory. Our winner this year is Savanna Holley of the Good Hope Country Day School. The topic of her social problem was, "Youth Apathy Towards the Environment." Nadjah Jn Phillip, of the Gifft Hill School on St. John, took second place with her topic, "The Impact of Social Media on Virgin Islands Teens." Ne'Keyla Amey finished in third place with her topic, "Eliminating Our "Who you know" Mentality to Create a More Cohesive Society." Honorable mention was given to Donnalee Isaac on her topic, "The Effects of Abortion on VI Teens."
