DPW to Resume Booting Enforcement on July 1

(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Department of Public Works (DPW) will resume booting enforcement on July 1. Mayor Bowser first announced in early springthe resumption of this and other government functionsthat had been suspended during the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency (PHE). As a reminder, most parking enforcement services, including ticketing for meter violations and towing illegally parked vehicles, resumed on June 1.

When the PHE began in spring 2020, the District suspended ticketing for parking meter violations; for vehicles with expired DC tags, inspection stickers, or expired residential parking permits; as well as the booting or towing of vehicles. DPW continued to enforce safety violations throughout the PHE and restarted school zone parking enforcement on March 15.DPW tickets and fines can range from $25 to $1,000.

Booting Overview

Now that DPW is resuming booting effective July 1, here are important tips to remember:

· What is a boot-eligible vehicle?District law states that a vehicle is boot-eligibleif it has two or more unsatisfied parking and/or photo enforcement tickets that are 60 days old.

· Where booted vehicles are towed.DPW will tow booted vehicles from the street to the Blue Plains Impoundment and Storage Facility at 5001 Shepherd Parkway, SW (open weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.).

· If you believe your vehicle has been towed, call the Towing Control Dispatch Center at (202) 541-6083.

· Avoid impoundment. If your vehicle has been booted, satisfy all outstanding fees as soon as possible because booted vehicles are automatically subject to impoundment, which will result in additional towing and storage fees.

· How to pay fees.

Ÿ All fines, boot and/or tow fees must be satisfied in order to release the vehicle.

Ÿ Fines and fees may be paid online or in person. Go hereto learn more details about payment options and locations.
