PPG color expertise showcased on Toyota ‘Tacozilla’ SEMA concept vehicle

Showstopping 4x4 overlander features vintage color scheme of iconic Chinook camper

PITTSBURGH, November 3, 2021 - PPG (NYSE:PPG) today shared the colors developed for the Toyota "Tacozilla" 4x4 overlander concept vehicle during the 2021 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. The vehicle showcases the combined color styling and development expertise of the company's automotive OEM coatings and refinish businesses.

A reimagining of the iconic Toyota Chinook camper of the 1970s and 1980s, Tacozilla can be seen through Friday, Nov. 5, in the Toyota exhibit (Central Hall, booth 24800) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Tacozilla is an off-road-ready Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport featuring a fully insulated "micro-house" that can comfortably accommodate two people for on- and off-road adventures. The vehicle brings an array of modern conveniences - a full bathroom with hot-water shower, flat-screen television, kitchen with refrigerator, stove and sink, and a 3D-printed dining table that converts to a backlit piece of wall art - to one of the most innovative campers ever produced. The Chinook was introduced by Toyota in 1972 as a fuel-efficient alternative to conventional motorhomes.

Representatives from PPG's automotive OEM and refinish businesses collaborated with Toyota Motorsports Garage in selecting the vehicle's white basecoat and vintage yellow, orange and bronze accents. Complete Customs in McKinney, Texas, applied all three PPG colors with support from PPG distributor English Color and Supply in Richardson, Texas.

"This was a very fast-paced, exciting project that demonstrated our team's unique ability to create and execute a color scheme that helped bring our customer's concept to life," said Misty Yoemans, PPG color styling manager, Americas.

PPG's unique position as a color leader in multiple markets enables the company to observe and translate emerging global color trends for customers' applications - from consumer goods to automotive color, residential to commercial and industrial design PPG delivers color palettes that are impactful. PPG color experts help customers generate color ideas based on cultural and demographic trends. The resulting colors are integrated into the design process, coat a wide range of materials and surfaces, and help customers bring more desirable products to market.
