Delegation from the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Belgium visits the Federal Constitutional Court

A delegation from the Constitutional Court of the Kingdom of Belgium, headed by its Presidents Prof. Pierre Nihoul and Prof. Dr. em. Luc Lavrysen, visited the Federal Constitutional Court from 16 to 18 April 2024. The guests were received by President Prof. Dr. Stephan Harbarth, LL.M. (Yale), Vice-President Prof. Dr. Doris König and other members of the Federal Constitutional Court. The following topics were addressed in the working sessions: the guarantee of human dignity and its socio-economic implications, for instance concerning the economic existential minimum; legal certainty and the protection of legitimate expectations regarding transitional legislation, retroactivity and changes in case-law; the right to self-determination with regard to gender, parentage and name changes; recent case-law of the two courts on the relation between constitutional law and European law.
